Pinguicula ionantha In spite of its limited distribution, this is the first butterwort I found on this Florida panhandle trip 2008. Just like Pinguicula planifolia, this species prefers very wet area, often growing in the water. Flowers open widely around 9:00am on a sunny day and start to close around 2:00pm. Each flower seems to last for several days. Flower color ranges from pale purple to white with a deeper purple color along the corolla tube. A yellow palate exserts strongly when the flower is fully open. Each of the five corolla lobes has a shallow notch. The shape of corolla lobes as well as the notch is somewhat variable among individual plants. PHOTO: Pinguicula ionantha PHOTO: Pinguicula ionantha
