 High noon in northern
California in August. On a bright sunny day, stately cobra pitchers
stand against the blue sky.  A well-developed, fishtail appendage --
morphologically the tip of the leaf -- offers a convenient landing site
for flying insects.  The appendage is also where the nectar secretionsis most abundant.
