The warmth of spring
brings about the onset of blossoms in the cobra plant habitats
throughout the region in California and Oregon. A flower bud,
formed in the rosette center in the winter
months, develops into a tall scape by May, reaching a height of 60-70cm.
Each scape supports a solitary, nodding flower at the tip. Five yellowish
sepals hang gently over a dainty corolla of the red flower.
