This insect's-eye view of the
S.
purpurea pitcher reveals strong red-vein markings on the inner surface
of the hood, along with short, stiff hairs all pointing in the
direction of the pitcher opening. The hood rises vertically with
little reflection over the opening, often resulting in the
rainwater filling the globose pitcher.
