During the months of May
through June, a spectacular floral display of "cobra lilies"
can be seen throughout the colonies of cobra plants in California and
Oregon. A field is often covered with hundreds of red corollas blooming
in sheer exuberance, nodding in the spring breeze. A mild mountain slope with running water
presents an ideal habitat for this remarkable species of the pitcher
plant family.
